Colin Powell Calls Trump ‘National Disgrace’ In Leaked Emails

trump national disgrace

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell called Donald Trump a “national disgrace” and an “international pariah” in emails that were leaked online this week.

The emails were obtained by the website DCLeaks.com and were first reported by BuzzFeed News. Initially, Powell said that he had “no further comment” but was that he was not “denying it.” Later, however, Powell confirmed to NBC News that the emails were real and mentioned “the hackers have a lot more.”

DCLeaks is suspected of having ties to Russian intelligence services, but those links have not yet been confirmed. The FBI previously stated they believed Russia was behind the internal email hack of the Democratic National Committee.

The email in question was dated June 17 and was from Powell to his former aide and current journalist, Emily Miller. He also said Trump “is in the process of destroying himself” so there is “no need for Dems to attack him.”

In another email from Powell to Miller, dated August 21, he discussed that Trump’s birther movement was “racist.”

“That’s what the 99% believe,” Powell wrote. “When Trump couldn’t keep that up he said he also wanted to see if the certificate noted that he was a Muslim.”

“As I have said before, ‘What if he was?’ Muslims are born as Americans everyday,” Powell continued.

In an email from December of last year to CNN anchor Fareed Zakaria, Powell blasted the press for their Trump coverage: “You guys are playing his game, you are his oxygen. He outraged us again today with his comments on Paris no-go for police districts. I will watch and pick the timing, not respond to the latest outrage.”

He followed that up with another email along the same lines, stating that desired not to give Trump any more media attention: “To go on and call him an idiot just emboldens him.”

Dear Author: No apology for Trump intended but let me bring to the readers’ attention all of his comments including what he had to say about Clinton for all those interested:

I’m so SICK of journalists perpetuating their biased opinions to further condition the reading public’s mind.

Your thread is a blatant example of self serving cheap political pandering that suffice to truncate the full truth for personal gain.

The “shame” falls on Powell, regardless of what his emails actually said, or anything in this or any other article in the National Memo. He is the true “national disgrace.”

He was including shameless people like you so no need to respond to his comment because you are no better than the author of this article.

(Laughing) Considering the source (another disgrace),
          thanks for the honor!

Ah, Saint Colin doesn’t have the guts to call out Trump publicly. As for his trashing Hillary because he does not want to get dragged into “her” email scandal, well his email to her made it clear that he had no intention of complying with the public records laws and that he gave her tips on avoiding disclosure, too. In addition he has admitted that unlike Hillary he destroyed all of his emails in violation of that law. His excuse that he knew those emails would be “captured” by State’s server since he emailed people using it is disproved by his admission that he emailed heads of state. And he was hacked even before this recent episode because his email was so secure.
He is also the guy who who lied to the Iran Contra investigators to help cover up that illegal, unconstitutional operation. When that information came out in the final report of the Independent Counsel, Lawrence Walsh, a highly respected Republican, the media buried the story to protect the Great One.

“National disgrace”? You mean like the administration Colin Powell assisted in gaining office in 2000? Like the president who lied us into a war so he could be a “war president” and his friend Colin? Like that performance at the UN when it was obvious even Powell didn’t believe what he was shoveling? Like his successor as Secretary of State? The vice president he served loyally? The Secretary of Defense? The Attorney General and his assistants who wrote all those “legal” rationalizations for war crimes? Like Colin himself, who loyally stuck it out for a full term to assure his retirement had no negative impact on the Bush re-election campaign?
Trump’s no prize, but isn’t this the thoroughly-blackened pot calling the shiny new kettle black?

Gee, I was shocked that the NM author of this piece failed to mention the hacked Powell emails that mentioned Clinton more often, and excoriated her (and Bill) far worse than anything he said about Trump! Could it be that I was mistaken and NM is not fair and balanced in their reporting?!!!
