#EndorseThis: Gary Johnson Doesn’t Know WHAT Aleppo Is

Share

Today’s #EndorseThis column might be a bit thinner than usual, as I could only watch the subject of this article one time before physically turning away from the television, muting the sound, and burying my head in my heads.

That’s because Gary Johnson, the Libertarian Party’s pitch at mainstream legitimacy in an election year with historically unpopular major party candidates, asked what Aleppo was.

That’s right: What. Not where it is, not what’s happened to it. Johnson’s brain fart on Morning Joe implied that not only does the Libertarian nominee not know that Aleppo was at one point Syria’s largest city before a half decade of civil war made it a theater for some of the most gruesome battle of the 21st century — including, recently, an alleged chlorine gas attack on civilians by president Bashar al-Assad’s forces — but also that he doesn’t even know it’s a city in the first place.

It’s even more shocking because the disaster in Syria ought to be the primary talking point of the former New Mexico governor’s campaign against foreign intervention, a central tenet of Libertarianism: The United States has funded rebel groups on all sides of the conflict, including ISIS’ new top field commander Gulmurod Khalimov, whom we trained when he was police commissioner of Tajikistan, and the toxic stew of ideological proxy warring in Syria should be a softball topic for any Libertarian, let alone the leader of the entire party.

I hope the gaffe doesn’t distract from the facts on the ground: The world has failed Syrian civilians, refugees and not, leaving hundreds of thousands dead and still more imprisoned, tortured, or displaced. If anything, Johnson’s blank stare stands in for millions of Americans who could care less about what’s happening in Syria. But the rest of us aren’t running to command thousands of troops and billions of dollars directly related to that conflict.

As Secretary of State she spoke to a lot of leaders, strategizing, she was also involved with decision to kill Osama Bin Laden, I’m sure there are plenty of other accomplishments she did that are not spoken of. Any way you slice it she has more experience in state affairs then Trump or the Lib. Trump accomplishments are: Lying, stealing, raping, defrauding innocent people, racketeering and paying for getting of the hook in some states.

She did “run” the Middle East into the ground, she can do the same for the US. That takes years of experience that only Hillary has. The nuclear Triad , Hillary, Kerry and Obama.

No you are just saying that because that is what you are programmed to do. She didn’t “run” the Middle East to the ground, they pretty much are doing it to themselves. You don’t quite know if the nuclear deal is a success or not, no one does.
What I do know is that ISIS is not as strong as they were before, and the good thing is 3000 more US soldiers weren’t killed, Obama’s strategies are working.

Unfortunately for you, but perhaps fortunately for the rest of us, even if you guys manage to elect the man, you have no assurance that he will be any better at keeping promises than other politicians, and considerable reason to doubt it, though you don’t see it that way. Generally loudmouthed attention-whores like Trump aren’t really that great when in comes to delivering, as you might find if you asked all the people who worked for him or sold him things who got stiffed when it came time to pay.
And you can certainly criticize Obama for anything you choose, whether he has anything to do with it or not, as have so many other “conservatives” over the last 7-8 years.Possibly you, like Trump, consider yourself an expert on many things about which you know next to nothing, so of course your military, diplomatic, and overall mental ability greatly exceeds the president’s at least in your own mind. He should have bombed them more, or done this or that, it’s obvious. You seem to have all too much in common with your friend Trump in his avian guise (below).

The yellow school buses is part of the voluntary round up plan. My main concern is to document illegals so that they can be not considered second class – ” in the shadows” people’s . No citizen ship of course unless they apply as others have . This way we can bring them in as needed for duties that rely on their skill sets , they would be free to travel at will .

I mentioned previously safe zones which would be better than encroachment into the gulf states sacred money pits, Europe has provided a useful lesson .

Is Trump any better than the experienced ? Congress and foreign diplomat staff …… What is there to loose ! More creative ideas are required and straight talk rather than convoluted word hedging diplomacy .

Trump has delivered on many projects evidently, however if the sub contractors do not deliver on their milestones , they may be left with miles of stones . Simple Project Management .

The congress and corporate lawyers Have robbed the peasantry by their loopholes and And self interest deals. As I believe I said then, or perhaps to someone else, you seem to think that you can upset all the unfairness and buying and selling of influence, corruption, etc., by electing one of the least self-aware and responsible members of the incredibly overprivileged class, as if he’ll change overnight into a saint.

Just won’t give up your delusions, will you? The people who were stiffed by Trump didn’t fail to deliver: it was HE WHO STIFFED THEM.
And your “school bus” scheme was in response to my question of how you thought Trump was going to round up all those unwilling people and what he planned to do with them while they awaited deportation, not some hare-brained “voluntary” scheme, but I see you’ve adopted an important part of Trump’s persona, i.e., denying or modifying what he said (without admitting it, of course) when someone calls him on it.
Best of all is your remark about “corporate lawyers”: just who do you think Trump relies on to get him out of taking responsibility for his actions when his projects go bad? Electing one of the worst unrepentant and dishonest corporate abusers to stop corporate abuse sounds like a plan to me!
Look, you’ve at least been cordial and attempted to answer some of my challenges without rancor or disrespect. It gives me no pleasure to keep beating up on you, but really, you should re-read and seriously think about what you’ve written here and elsewhere to defend this ultra self-centered, self-promoting, insecure and insincere scalawag you seem to think is going to save the world. I never thought I’d say this to any conservative or other republican, but he doesn’t deserve loyal supporters like you. It should be obvious looking at his history that he’d sell you out in a second if he thought it would benefit him.
Peace to you, and I hope for both our sakes that your guy loses.

I do not consider you beating on me. I see what you are saying saying.
One only wants to ID the overstayed visas and guest workers so that they can be regarded as legally being here without strange looks or rancor . It would be easy to Government ID them voluntarily and move on. Lawyers should be left out of these negotiations. These are simple transactions. School buses ? ” Eisenhower and Carter made attempts at re adjusting the illegal ratio and stop Iranian student visas from being issued . Mexicans are almost invited guest workers and should be allowed to work as US workers with IDs to fill the available slots after local citizens are given opportunity for these jobs …. but citizen ship is only granted if applied for properly , humanely , no voting privileges as Trump really suggests . Border walls ,electronic or other wise , is for security, not Racial reasons.
Trumps construction contracts are complex and lawyers are used w little knowledge of these types of interesting transactions , with the mob, politicians , kick backs , And other items not able to be placed in contract legaleeze. I have not read any adjudication of his dealings and can not comment. I’ve worked in these situations and it is difficult for some underbid private enterprise subcontractors / parties to meet their responsibilities and often subcontractors fall short, Government contracts have no limitations on spending because everyone has their hand in the till and no one squeals about over runs . Give me a government contract anytime .

Before President Obama and Sec of State Clinton took office the Middle East was a disaster. GW Bush invaded Iraq on either flawed intelligence or pure bs. After 8 years of W the Middle East was in a shambles, Iraq was basically in 3 sections – Kurdish, Sunni and Shite with the last two killing each other. Afghanistan was also left in ruins after they were invaded by the US led coalition.

I agree , even I saw it coming to a bad end and obviously many others .Benevolent Dictators are useful since Some people under subjugation can not handle democracy, it really takes work to keep democracies going honestly, unfortunately in the US it had become badly corrupted And needs a person to clean house. Congress passes laws to its own interests. Some young people do not see the corruption because they are buried in themselves and being supported by home living …some.

I doubt that Sadam Hussein would be classified as a benevolent dictator. He and his sons killed people that either disagreed with them or disappointed them. That’s hardly benevolent.

Your claim of “And needs a person to clean house.” has some validity and I hear this from people especially right wing people. They never explain how cleaning house will occur and who would replace all of the Executive and Legislative branches.

          3. Leftout September 10, 2016

Hussein kept insurrections controlled, seemed ok for the locals and life went on. other wise then you have to agree with GW about invading Iraq.

To clean house would be to have the corrupted Congress resign, but that is unlikely, give them a severance of 1 million dollars to find other trades, But Congress should be made to live on their salaries , no PACS or Lobbyist inducements. Perhaps and additional token 1 million dollars for expenses to prevent financial shock to their expectations of legalized bribery.

Saddam Hussein controlled insurrections in Iraq by gassing the Kurds resulting in tens of thousands deaths and 2 million people being displaced. A rebellion in the south of Iraq was viciously squashed resulting in the execution of thousands of rebels and the death of thousands of unarmed civilians. it doesn’t seem like the locals were ok with Hussein, they lived in fear of him and his sons.
As for your clean house scenario is untenable at best. You want to replace 435 members of the House of Representatives and 50 Senators. Aside from whatever the financial cost would be, you want to have the Legislative branch of the government run by inexperienced people, people who would have to know the numerous rules controlling the House and Senate.

Just another Lefty leaning Press, with its Gotcha question. Now isn’t that right? Total Grammar School stuff. like what newspapers, or magazines do you read that informs the opinions you hold? Outrageous, as everyone knows they don’t read, they listen. To fake news, Rush Limbaugh, Alex Joes, and Sean Hannity.
And are concerned about conspiracies they hear about on Info-Wars that are then broadcast on Fox, and bull horned by Donal Trump on the campaign trail.
Stick with Herman Cain who don’t know who the President of Uz Becky-Becky Stan is, and don’t care! Now that’s the ticket!

It was a fair question of your immersed in politics as he should be aware of it. To know every Beckys Stan leader would be a tough one, but all news and opinion shows certainly mention Aleppo periodically and it is in the center of attention ” at times” . I do read all sides to verify any opinions .news can be distorted of course as well as opinions on such. It is amazing the different spins on Trumps Mexican visit and his mention of the how described the pile of rubble of the Generals , not being effective in their efforts in the Middle East

Sure, I get. We can’t expect the candidates to know everything.
But neither can we allow them to be total illeterates when it comes to current events. I would like to hear all candidates simply describe the Syrian Civil War as they see it. Who they see as its major players. The ones they are comfortable with staying, and being a part of the solution, and who must go. Assad, The Free Syrian Army, Iran, Iraq, ISIS, Russia, Turkey, and what of The Curds Now their interests all conflict. So how would they go about resolving this? What specific actions from us would be most helpful? Work with others? Solve it ourselves with military power? Yes/No. If so, how many troops do they figure, and for how long, and to what ends?
Installing a Jeffersonian Democracy? Or allowing a friendly Islamic State, if that’s what the people desire? More Nation building? No. If not then, does our involvement in their estimation pose the risk of merely creating more dissension, and more terrorism, like in Iraq?

And finally, what is their proposal for the more than 7 million displaced refugees, and the other estimated 10 million more who are now at risk of famine, disease, and exposure, trapped in a failed State? Not our problem? Let the UN handle it? Let others in the region deal with them? Create a safe zone, no fly zone. All present huge obstacles. How do they see those working? Who provides security, medical, works with the Russians in a no fly zone so they stand down? What happens if one of ours is shot down?

I want to hear them deal with the nuts and bolts they will be faced with as President. Not Obama is doing nothing, or too little. Or created ISIS for Christ’s sake. For me, it’s more about serious real life things. Like how they see the situation, and how would go they go about as President of the most influential Nation on Earth, in finding solutions.

All of your points are well known to our experienced??? foreign service staffs and related nations, and who owns what is a real problem. A decision has to be taken and you named several. The UN can maintain a safe zone in Syria, supported by all of the other countries that do not want refugees overrunning their borders. An Islamic state would be Fine as long as they do not bother other beliefs, set up as a rule for engagement. Keep it simple. presently there is no knowledgeable leadership , apparently to finish the DEAL. you need a fresh approach.

The only qualified person running for President is Hillary Clinton. Most of what Gary Johnson thinks is flaky or harmful.

That’s probably the same look you’d get from Trump if you asked him the same question…..none of them have a clue about what is going on, but they sure seem to have answers to how to “fix” it!!!

Even casual attention to news would acquaint a person with Aleppo and the tragedy that has lasted for years. Put the pipe down Gary and pay attention.

I currently get paid around 6k-8k dollars /a month from freelancing at home. If you are ready to work simple at home tasks for 2h-5h each day at your home and make decent salary for doing it… This is ideal for you… http://ur1.ca/pm79n

It’s cute that the author assumes that Libertarians know or care about anything other than themselves.

Johnson doesn’t know Aleppo and it’s a tragedy.
Clinton doesn’t remember getting classified training – vote for her.

Trump and Gary Johnson are prime examples of how our schools have failed in providing all-around quality education—even for the rich, and the influential.
On top of that, most other wannabes have been been forced to drop out simply for want of basic education and mental desuetude, growing mentally dull from watching too much TV, lack of exercise, and mostly sitting around pondering how to get more money.
