Man Charged With Assaulting Protester At Trump Rally In North Carolina: Report

Share

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (Reuters) – A man is facing criminal charges after police say he assaulted a protester being removed from a rally for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in North Carolina, local television station WRAL reported on Thursday.

John McGraw, 78, of Linden, North Carolina, has been charged with assault and battery and disorderly conduct, the news station said on its website. The incident on Wednesday night in Fayetteville was caught on video by bystanders.

Sheriff’s officials could not be immediately reached for comment on Thursday.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office earlier told The Wall Street Journal it was investigating why officers arrested the protester but not the man who punched him in the face.

Rakeem Jones, the man who was hit, told The Washington Post that the blow caught him off guard.

“After I get it, before I could even gain my thoughts, I’m on the ground getting escorted out,” Jones told the newspaper.

Trump’s campaign rallies are boisterous in tone, with the New York billionaire often pausing in his addresses to scold protesters and ask security officers to take them away. At a rally last month in Nevada, he said of a protester, “I’d like to punch him in the face.”

The real estate magnate is the front-runner to be his party’s presidential nominee for the general election on Nov. 8.

According to Trump all the protesters, including women, are huge, extremely dangerous individuals…

A cowardly act if there ever was one. As is clearly shown in the video the Black man was not talking part in any violent behavior toward the old man or anyone else. He was leaving in the escort of legal authority and the old man got up and had to move to the else in order to give the young man an elbow smash.

Incredibly, or perhaps not, most Trump supporters see nothing wrong with this kind of behavior, and continue to make excuses for the immature candidate that condones, and in some ways, promotes, this climate of violence and hatred. The fact that a man like Donald Trump, a narcissistic, irresponsible, and immature man, enjoys the support of millions of Americans, to the point of cult reverence, says more about the state of our society than about the moron himself.

I`m a white 70 plus year old, and if I was the person you punched, I would own every gd thing you ever had now and in the future. I would also sue the hell out of Trump, the local cops that threw the victim on the ground, and walk away with millions because azzwipes like you think it`s your right to take away anothers free speech.

Don`t surprise me at all. Lots of people his age are old time racist and bigots who believe the black guy has no right being in the Oval Office. Trump`s actions confirm this fools beliefs and I have no doubt he felt entitled to punch the black guy for daring to have the balls to speak out. If morons like him had their way slavery would still be legal, inter-racial marriage a reason for a sat. night lynching, and dare to say anything about gay rights, the moron would blow your head off. Idiots like this make all citizens my age embarrassed. Hope the racist pays a huge price for his 3 seconds of fame. I have a neighbor just like this clown. When Obama won in 2008 his first words were “I can`t believe that f****en N****** won. What the hell is this nation coming too.” Typical stupid, uneducated Trump voter, that Trump luvs!!! Sad we still have idiots like this to put up with.

With so many people acting like they are, I fear that hope may be all we have. I cannot understand how any self respecting American can believe that Trump will deliver anything but hate, strife and misery if he is elected. He has already proven that. I know that neither Hillary nor Bernie is the perfect candidate but either of them would make a much better President than any of the GOP aspirants.

Ah yes…the Grand ole Good ole Good Ole Sons of the Confederacy….on the march once again…In NC, there is huge resentment among whites who believe they shouldn’t have to pay blacks and other minorities for the work they do…and guess what? NC’s average income is far below that of many other US states.

All that is missing from Trump’s campaigning is the Stars and Bars flying high overhead and a Home Guard standing watch over The Donald…in white robes and cone hats.

My nephew born and bred in NJ moved to NC about 15 years ago. We no longer speak. If you want to prove that the environment you live in can change your upbringing, look no further than the closet bigots who over the past 2 decades moved to NC and after less than 5 years become flaming bigots.

I could excuse my GA, TX, VA and FL relatives because they were born in those states and don’t know any better. But that still proves that the environment of bigotry and hate you are born into or …worse relocate is an infectious disease.

The problem in th south is easier to explain than the problem in the midwest. Although, the basis of bigotry is still the same: White all too accustomed to some modium of superior status who feel the degradation of having to do work their free slaves used to do. Sharecropper mentalities nearly always hide their bigotry. After all, white skin is all they have of a semblance of what they believe is superiority.

The midwestern bigots became all too accustomed to minorities doing all that farm work in the bread basket of the USA . They were able to rise above the level of the illegals they hire by simply dumping work they don’t want to do on others they exploit with cheap labor Walmartian wages. That way, they have an excuse to continue mindless Great Depression style austerity they choose to call “conservatism.”

I so agree. What is truly pathetic is that these old coots like Grassley, Hatch and Cornyn are seeing their “power” slip through their fingers and can’t stand that they must return to the type of government that doesn’t automatically reject out of hand everything the opposition puts out on the table.

When you see Republicans acting like spiteful little boys, it is time for a national referendum to end their power freakage. They have NO more power than anyone of us. Why they think their strutting, swaggering and drawling BS is in the least impressive only serves to prove they do not operate on the logic of more than bloated egos out of control.

The old white man forgot he is in the 21st century. He is about 60 years too late. Maybe if he had used a gun and killed the black man he might have gotten away with it. Usually only white cops can get away with assaulting black people on camera.
