Draining The Swamp? Trump’s Health Pick Accused Of Insider Trading

Trump Price Medicare Health

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team defended his nominee for health and human services (HHS) secretary, Tom Price, from charges that he bought shares in a company days before introducing legislation that would have benefited the firm.

A Senate confirmation hearing is scheduled for Wednesday for Price, a Republican congressman from Georgia who, if confirmed, would be a lead agent in carrying out Trump’s plans to overhaul President Barack Obama’s signature health care law.

CNN reported on Sunday that Price bought between $1,001 and $15,000 worth of shares last March in Zimmer Biomet Holdings Inc, a medical device manufacturer.

Days later, he introduced legislation to the House of Representatives that would have delayed a regulation that could have ultimately damaged the company, CNN said.

The Trump transition team said late on Monday that the stock purchase was directed not by Price but by a broker and that Price himself did not become aware of the stock buy until well after the legislation was introduced.

“Any effort to connect the introduction of bipartisan legislation by Dr Price to any campaign contribution is demonstrably false,” said transition spokesman Phil Blando.

“The only pattern we see emerging is that Senate Democrats and their liberal media allies cannot abide by the notion that Dr. Tom Price is uniquely qualified to lead HHS and will stop at nothing to smear his reputation,” he said.

Senator Chuck Schumer of New York, the leader of the Democratic minority in the Senate, called on the Office of Congressional Ethics to investigate whether Price had violated the 2012 Stock Act, a law designed to combat insider trading.

“The President-elect claims he wants to drain the swamp, but Congressman Price has spent his career filling it up,” Schumer said in a statement.

Price is one of eight Trump Cabinet nominees who will face Senate confirmation hearings this week, starting on Tuesday with Ryan Zinke, a Republican Montana congressman pegged as interior secretary, and Republican philanthropist Betsy DeVos who is the education nominee.

Trump’s presidential inauguration is on Friday and his team is hoping to have as many of his nominees as possible, perhaps as many as seven, confirmed by then.

Aside from that should the HHS be devoid of any compassion for people, since they are overseeing the most important basic need of people?

Haven’t you figured it out yet…..the Republicans don’t give a damned about the people in this nation. They are only out for the money! Trump and his billionaire cronies have NO intention of making things better for the poor and middle class….they’re only out to make things better for the 1% (soon to be the 2% since the “billionaire club” seems to be growing on a daily basis)!!

In a recent Oxfam report eight men own the same wealth as the 3.6 billion people who are the poorest. That kind of power allows them to buy politicians to create laws that benefit them at the expense of everyone else.

That’s been there goal. Cutting taxes at the top again, never has worked for America, but stupid keeps doing stupid things.

It is mind boggling why voters keep voting for those that throw money at the wealthy. The republicans keep whining about the little guy who gets away (albeit wrongly) with welfare fraud for peanuts, but corporate welfare and fraud, in the billions, just does not seem to be a priority for them. I am starting to believe that American corporations cannot make a profit on their own merits, they depend of the tax payer subsidies, tax credits, and special deals.

          2. dpaano January 19, 2017

So true…..after all, look how many pay ZERO in taxes, yet they keep getting our taxpayer money via subsidies for doing nothing but their jobs! Pretty pitiful! It almost makes me want to not pay my taxes this year, but I’d probably get caught and thrown in jail for years and years! I’m just one of the middle class….I don’t have fancy CPA’s to do my taxes and cheat!

          3. dpaano January 19, 2017

Definitely…..the “trickle down economy” didn’t work for Louisiana or Kansas, but apparently, they are too dumb to see the chaos that it has caused on both of those states! They just want to do the very same thing, and I can guarantee you, we’ll be in a major depression in a matter of months! And, the Trumpettes that voted for this idiot will FINALLY see that they voted for the antichrist and NOT someone who is going to give a damned about their needs or wants!

President-Elect Trump “drained the swamp” by replacing it with a cesspool, where the really big chunks float to the top.

    Lies, lies, and more lies.

We need an all out revolt.

  4. dpaano January 17, 2017

If I were in Congress, you can bet that NONE of Trump’s nominees would pass muster! They are all as crooked as he is! Why do you think he chose them…..he knows that they are con men just like him…..they all stick together!

    1. Jmz Nesky January 18, 2017

Actually it goes deeper than that.. He knows they’re nothing more than yes men who will carry out his plans for the nation and sacrifice their reputations for it other than point fingers, also in his self-bloated mind and knowing they will become the goats when the people protest, he believes he will always be the fartest smeller, uh.. I mean the smartest feller in the room.. That their also con men like himself is merely cream on top.

      1. dpaano January 19, 2017

Just thought….the reason why so many of them are not past politicians is probably because he knows they won’t care about being re-elected in 4 years! Interesting! The most we can hope for is that some of the more moderate Republicans (yes, there ARE a few) will side with the Democrats and keep Trump and his cronies on a tight leash! After all, the Republicans have many seats coming up for re-election in 2018….and if they piss us off enough, they could lose them to Democrats! We can always hope….I’m an optimist!

Martha Stewart got prison time for doing the same. Let’s hear it Trumpettes: “Lock him up!! Lock him up!!”
