Bernie Sanders Is Not Impressed With Trump’s Carrier Deal

Sanders not impressed by Trump's Carrier Deal

INDIANAPOLIS, (Reuters) – U.S. President-elect Donald Trump visited a factory in Indiana on Thursday to kick off a “thank you tour” for his election win and celebrate persuading air conditioner maker Carrier Corp to preserve around 1,000 jobs in the state rather than move them to Mexico.

The Republican businessman toured the plant in Indianapolis and shook hands with workers on an assembly line. He was due to make remarks there later in the day.

In an early victory for Trump before he takes office on Jan. 20, Carrier said this week it agreed to keep more than 1,000 jobs at the plant and at its headquarters, while still planning to move more than 1,000 other U.S. jobs to Mexico.

Trump made keeping jobs in the United States one of the main issues of his election campaign and frequently pilloried Carrier for planning to ship jobs overseas as he appealed to blue-collar workers in the Midwest.

Though the company is still outsourcing Indiana jobs to Mexico, the deal marks a quick win for Trump, who has spent most of his time since the Nov. 8 election in New York building his team ahead of the handover of power from President Barack Obama.

Carrier confirmed that Indiana agreed to give the company $7 million in tax incentives. A source briefed on the matter said the tax incentives are over 10 years and the company has agreed to invest $16 million in the state, which is run by Governor Mike Pence, Trump’s vice president-elect.

Trump spokesman Jason Miller told reporters the Carrier deal is proof that “this administration is going to make good on our promises to keep jobs here in America.”

But Carrier, a unit of United Technologies Corp, still plans to move 600 jobs from the plant to Mexico, the Wall Street Journal said. Reuters reported earlier this week Carrier also still intends to close a factory in Huntington, Indiana, that employs 700 people making controls for heating, cooling and refrigeration and move the jobs to Mexico by 2018.

U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders, who lost the Democratic primary to Clinton, said the Carrier deal is incomplete and leaves the incoming Trump administration open to threats from companies.

“Trump has endangered the jobs of workers who were previously safe in the United States. Why? Because he has signaled to every corporation in America that they can threaten to offshore jobs in exchange for business-friendly tax benefits and incentives,” Sanders wrote in a Washington Post opinion piece on Thursday.

He noted that Trump had originally said he would save 2,100 jobs that Carrier planned to move to Mexico.

“Let’s be clear: It is not good enough to save some of these jobs,” Sanders said.

Despite Trump’s deal, employers elsewhere in Indiana are laying off five times that many workers because of foreign competition.

Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim said on Thursday that if Trump succeeds as U.S. president, it would benefit major trading partner Mexico because of increased employment and U.S. economic growth.

Trump was due to hold a rally in Cincinnati, Ohio, later on Thursday and address supporters who helped him win that swing state in his stunning victory over Democrat Hillary Clinton.

The Indiana and Ohio stops will be Trump’s first public events since he won the presidency.

At the Cincinnati event, Trump and Pence will talk about what is ahead and the “positive change” Trump will bring to the country, spokesman Miller said.

Trump’s Cincinnati rally looks like it will echoes the raucous events that characterized his campaign, in which he railed against Washington insiders and Wall Street and vowed to “drain the swamp.”

But now Trump is turning to establishment figures to fill critical positions in his administration.

On Wednesday, Trump said he would nominate former Goldman Sachs banker Steven Mnuchin, to lead the Treasury Department. Trump named Wilbur Ross, a billionaire known for his investments in distressed industries, as his nominee for commerce secretary.

The Trump team has also tapped a series of experienced Washington hands to oversee the transfer of power within government departments and agencies.

The real estate mogul and former television celebrity, who has never before held elected office, has named some members of his Cabinet but has many other jobs to fill.

The Cincinnati rally follows a car and knife attack this week by a Somali immigrant and Muslim student, Abdul Razak Ali Artan, at Ohio State University in Columbus that left 11 people injured, for which Islamic State claimed responsibility.

In a Twitter message, Trump said, “ISIS is taking credit for the terrible stabbing attack at Ohio State University by a Somali refugee who should not have been in our country.”

The Council on American-Islamic Relations accused Trump of seeking to exploit the “tragic situation in Ohio.”

  1. Godzilla December 1, 2016

Trump has endangered the jobs of workers who were previously safe in the
United States. Why? Because he has signaled to every corporation in
America that they can threaten to offshore jobs in exchange for
business-friendly tax benefits and incentives,” Sanders wrote in a Washington Post opinion piece on Thursday.

SO F-ING WHAT? Save American jobs at the expense of government waste, what a no-brainer. No wonder Sanders lost, he’s an economic moron. God, Liberal’s are idiots.

    1. JPHALL December 1, 2016

What about the other Carrier jobs, nearly 1,000, that are still going to Mexico? What about the expectations of other companies will want their payoff to keep some of their jobs in the US? Talk about right wing economic idiots!

      1. I Am Helpy December 1, 2016

Gotta correct you – it’s like 1800 that are going to Mexico, and 800 that are staying (and were never leaving in the first place).
Trump gave these people $7 million dollars to not change that.

        1. Mama Bear December 2, 2016

can you let me know where you found that info? Those jobs were not going in the first place? what is the net? anything?

        2. InformedVoter December 2, 2016

Hey Helpy, the Pathetic Dummy and proven to be a really big Liar,
Carrier has stated, despite what you write, that they REVERSED their decision. The number is 1000, not 800 or 700 like that low information Elle said. These are permanent job and the factory will remain open.
If this was a shady deal then why are all claiming it’s good, even left-leaning sites. Only low information posters like you are slamming it. Perhaps when your place of work decides your job can be outsourced to India and President Trump steps in and saves you lowly butt, then you’re understand economics.

          1. pisces63 December 2, 2016

No they are not. They say a bad president has been started. Get that right and it reads in the above article over 1,000 jobs were not saved and one plant is still closing and other plants in Indian are closing. Reading is fundamental. Wall Street Journal-600 to Mexico and Reuters another 700 to Mexico. 1,300.00 vs 1,000 kept. really?/

          2. dpaano December 2, 2016

Unfortunately, Pisces, they will believe what they want to believe and nothing that we tell them of any factual value goes completely over their heads. It’s a big waste of time and energy trying to educate them…..they are too lazy to learn and do their homework to find out the lies they’ve been told.

          3. InformedVoter December 2, 2016

Hello racist and bigot, so now you’re claiming that the AP article and the Carrier spokesperson are lying? How low information does that make you look!

          4. InformedVoter December 2, 2016

You really need remedial reading lessons. I’ll stick with the AP article and the Carrier spokesperson. They claim 1300 leaving and 1000 staying. Why don’t you try telling the 1000 who kept their jobs that they’re being relocated to Mexico and see if they believe you.

          5. A_Real_Einstein December 3, 2016

What do you tell the 1300 that are losing their jobs? I thought Trump said there would be consequences if companies shift their jobs and sent them to Mexico. Trump said they would pay a 35% tax on any air conditioners that they ship back to the US if they move. So now they get $7,000,000 OF MY TAX DOLLARS to move jobs to Mexico and pay no penalty tax on the imports coming back. WOW! What a great deal for Carrier. I am sure their competitors would love to get that too. You have been played pal. Trump duped you.He is a con man. You are about to learn what fascism is. Be prepared to be ruled by the corporations and the military. You voted for it. There is a price for being poorly educated, you idiot.

          6. InformedVoter December 5, 2016

You tell the 1300 “we tried but Obama didn’t have a good economic policy that would have saved your jobs”. At least President Trump saved 1000 jobs. Saving 1000 jobs has to be better than losing ALL 2300.
$7 million is paltry to save 1000 jobs. How often have you heard about a city or state that offered to built a $100 million stadium to keep or get a sports team?
Get real, the retention of the 1000 jobs will repay itself in a matter of months.
Dan Gilbert, the lead of Quicken Loans, who has a personal net worth of $4.6 billion, is asking the government to give him incentives to construct buildings in Detroit. Professor Mogk a professor of development at Wayne State University said “It’s just not easy to explain how the public interest is benefited by having major incentives offered to developers … but these huge projects will boost the tax base and make Detroit more alluring in the future”.
So it would seem that the old adage of “to make money you must spend money” is true.
Your low information position is extremely short sighted.

          7. A_Real_Einstein December 5, 2016

Spoken like a true deplorable who has no idea how things work. You will see…. or maybe not considering you are too stupid to understand things like us grown ups. Come back when your IQ reaches double digits.

          8. InformedVoter December 5, 2016

A truly impressive post. So you’ve proven that incentives don’t exist? or don’t work? or MOST LIKELY, you DON”T UNDERSTAND!

          9. A_Real_Einstein December 5, 2016

Oh I understand. Carrier got 7,000,000 in tax payer money to move their plant in Bloomington to Mexico. Now they can pay their workers $3 per hour instead of $30. They have absolutely no dis incentive not to move and no special 35% tax. Where is the tariff? The so called 700 jobs will be moved next year. You have been played!

          10. InformedVoter December 6, 2016

Carrier will give back more than the paltry $7 million. So the tally is 1300 lost, but 1100 will be staying. Add in the 5000 Ford jobs at the KTP and now today, the announcement that 50000! jobs will be created (coming from Japan no doubt). Hell that’s more jobs than Obama saved or created in 8 years!

          11. A_Real_Einstein December 7, 2016

It is estimated that Obama saved between 1 and 3 million jobs when he saved the American Auto. Industry. According to the CBO 15,000,000 new jobs have been created in the private sector since 2010

          12. InformedVoter December 7, 2016

Yes, jobs were created during Obama’s presidency, how many jobs did Obama personally, himself, doing the actual work, did Obama create? I certainly don’t recall any headline that said that Obama personally met with the CEO of XYZ corp and they emerged and made a joint announcement that X number of jobs could be created or that $X amount could be invested in US jobs.

The estimated number of jobs from the auto bailout, which lost $9.2 billion, was nowhere near your number! If both GM and FCA sunk, most of those jobs would have been moved to the remaining automakers. Ford, Toyota USA etc would have hired more workers to pick up the manufacture of the cars. The raw materials and components supplied to GM and FCA would have moved to support the added production at the remaining companies.
So President Trump gives $7 million in incentives and saves 1100 jobs, and Obama loses $9.2 BILLION and saves perhaps a few hundred thousand jobs. You can sure tell Obama never worked in the private sector!
Perhaps you could ask Obama to negotiate your next pay raise. Ha, ha, ha.

          13. I Am Helpy December 2, 2016

Sorry that you are on month two of your meltdown. It’s really sad that you can’t back up your outrageously false claims.

          14. InformedVoter December 2, 2016

Hey Helpy, the Pathetic Dummy and really proven to be a Liar,
But I DID prove my statements. You are the one who has not!

          15. I Am Helpy December 2, 2016

Yes, I’m sorry that you can’t provide this proof. It’s because it doesn’t exist.

          16. InformedVoter December 3, 2016

Hey Helpy, the Pathetic Dummy and really proven to be a LIAR, Once more you have been caught lying!
Proof previously provided by me – more than one source and more than twice.
Proof for you lies – STILL WAITING FOR YOU TO PROVIDE PROOF the US profited $15 billion and that Deb W-S did not resign because of the leaked email.
All I hear is chirping and silence.
More PROOF THAT YOU ARE LYING!
I understand that HilLIARy received her Certificate Of Participation for the election.
We’re still looking for some token gift to present to Deb W-S. I’ve printed out your claims that she did not resign because of the leaked emails. After we send them to her, perhaps she’ll ask for a recount as to why she resigned.

          17. I Am Helpy December 3, 2016

What would have been a better reply than incoherent and poorly punctuated insults would have been the quotes that back up your dumb lies. You can’t provide those, however, as they don’t exist.

          18. InformedVoter December 5, 2016

Hey Helpy the Pathetic Dummy and proven to be a big LIAR, My posts HAVE been proven multiple times. Your posts to others continue to make you look foolish. When they learn you claimed that Deb didn’t resign because of the leaked emails, they immediately know you’re posts are worthless.

          19. I Am Helpy December 5, 2016

            So no evidence huh. Weird.

          20. InformedVoter December 5, 2016

Hey Hellpy the Pathetic Dummy and proven to be a big LIAR, once more you are lying. Of course you’re reading my posts. But, wait, perhaps that’s why you keep claiming I have not sent the proof. It would appear that besides being a dummy and a liar that now you can’t seem to read.
That would also explain why you post so many lies.
Still waiting for the $15 billion profit and, oh yes, the reason Deb resigned.

          21. I Am Helpy December 5, 2016

            So no evidence, huh. Weird.

          22. InformedVoter December 5, 2016

Hey Helpy, the Pathetic Dummy and proven to be a big Liar,
still no reason for Deb’s resignation and no proof for the $15 billion profit. Typical for you. Nothing but words of “cluelessness”.
Still waiting and waiting and …

          23. I Am Helpy December 5, 2016

So just can’t find that evidence, huh. Weird.

          24. InformedVoter December 5, 2016

Hey Helpy, the Pathetic Dummy and proven to be a big LIAR, Still waiting for your reason why Deb resigned. Sort of dumb of her to resign for no reason and ultimately could have cost poor HilLIARy the election.
Also, no one seems to be coming to your aid to produce the missing $15 billion profit from the auto bailout.
Still waiting… still waiting. Normal for you.

          25. I Am Helpy December 5, 2016

So can’t find that evidence, huh. Weird.

          26. InformedVoter December 6, 2016

Hey Helpy, the Pathetic Dummy and proven to be a big liar, still waiting for $15 billion profit. Oh, and why Deb resigned too.

          27. I Am Helpy December 6, 2016

What do those random words have to do with the evidence you can’t seem to show for your dumb lies?

          28. InformedVoter December 7, 2016

Hey Helpy, the Pathetic Dummy and proven to be an even bigger LIAR,
OK, I’ll give this another shot to show you lie. My posts claimed that Deb resigned and that HiiLIARy paid to have the polls rigged, and that this information was contained in the leaked emails.
Have I personally read the email? Nope, have you read any yourself? So, here is a recent link that PROVES my post.
Don’t hurt yourself trying to get to a crying room.

          29. I Am Helpy December 7, 2016

I guess you’re admitting you lied.

          30. InformedVoter December 7, 2016

Hey Helpy the Pathetic Dummy and proven over and over again to be a really big LIAR,
This now makes 6 links provided that proved that HilLIARy paid to have the fake polls published. Yet you continue to say you’re waiting for proof. You are even more unbelievably stupid than anyone could have thought. How long has it been since your parents took you out of special education and put you in an assisted living home? You obviously don’t have the intelligence to survive on your own.
Still waiting for the Deb reason why she resigned and still waiting for you to prove the the auto bailout profited $15 billion – spoiler alert- you can’t and won’t be able to prove either point.
Time for you to go help Raymond count toothpicks.

          31. I Am Helpy December 7, 2016

            That’s a yes!

          32. InformedVoter December 8, 2016

Hey Hellpy, the Pathetic Dummy and proven to be a really big LIAR, You sou’re finally admitting that you made up the $15 billion profit from the auto bailout AND that the reason Deb resigned is because of the email leaks AND MOST importantly that HilLIARy paid the pollsters to publish fake polls – and this was learned via the leaked emails.
I’m glad you finally manned up and admitted you lied and were just making up stuff to make folks think you actually knew something about what you were writing about.
Now you can finish your good cry.

          33. I Am Helpy December 8, 2016

I’m glad you can admit you lied. It takes a big man, although obviously I use the word “man” loosely.

          34. InformedVoter December 8, 2016

Hey Hellpy, the Pathetic Dummy and proven to be a big liar,
YOU admitted you lied. You did that when you were sobbing uncontrollably in the safe room little boys like you seek out when you get your butts kicked.

          35. I Am Helpy December 8, 2016

OK it’s good that you can own the fact that you fell for a stupid hoax like a gullible fool with a two-digit IQ. Not many morons are brave enough to admit that they are so bad at thinking!

          36. InformedVoter December 9, 2016

Hey HELLpy, the Pathetic Dummy and proven to be a big LIAR,
I’m pleased that you finally admitted that you don’t speak or post true facts and that you just make up junk to make folks think you know something about the subject. You do this because you probably don’t work and have no friends.
Back to your safe space, crying room!

          37. I Am Helpy December 9, 2016

OK I’m glad that you’re admitting that you’re so stupid that you keep replying to someone who has been openly yanking your chain for months now.

          38. I Am Helpy December 6, 2016

I accidentally read the first part of this post. Are you really still claiming that TARP didn’t make $15 billion dollars? (15.3 to be exact). Wow. There’s this thing called google, maybe you have heard of it. It helps you not look like a crazy moron.

          39. InformedVoter December 7, 2016

            Hey Helpy, the Pathetic Dummy and proven to be a big LIAR;
why do you insist on posting FALSE statements?
OK, TARP profited $15.3 billion, BUT the AUTO bailout LOST $9.2 billion, even counting the recent sale of Ally stock!
You claimed the auto bailout profited $15 billion, but that is just a plain lie. Once more you were caught lying.
Still waiting for your proof about why Deb resigned.

          40. I Am Helpy December 7, 2016

I guess you’re admitting you lied (pt II).

          41. InformedVoter December 7, 2016

Hey Helpy, the Pathetic Dummy and proven to be a really big LIAR,
You’re the one who lied about the $15 billion for the auto bailout. I claimed it lost money and you claimed it made $15 billion. BUT it appears that the auto bailout actually LOST $9.2 billion. Hence, one more you’ve been proven to be the LIAR!

          42. I Am Helpy December 7, 2016

OK I’m glad you came clean about how wrong you were. It’s OK – many dumb liars have gone on to live short, productive lives in menial positions.

          43. InformedVoter December 8, 2016

Hey Hellpy the Pathetic Dummy and proven to be a really big LIAR, You’re the liar. Are you still claiming that the auto bailout generated a $15 billion profit? That’s pretty lame since any search will show that it lost $9.2 billion.
And you wonder why others are now calling you Pathetic Dummy and proven to be a really big LIAR.

          44. I Am Helpy December 8, 2016

It’s now been 3 months since I last read one of your replies (except the first sentence of one by accident), and yet you’re still stupid enough to keep talking. Wow.

          45. InformedVoter December 8, 2016

Hey Hellpy, the Pathetic Dummy and proven to be a big LIAR,

You are lying once more, you are reading my messages and have seen clearly that you were lying. So I’m still waiting and waiting for your next round of lies.
You fell for the hoax I didn’t even know about.
Boy does that make you look stupid.
I can keep this up all day, all week, all month, all year, all 8 years of President Trump’s term.

          46. I Am Helpy December 8, 2016

          48. InformedVoter December 2, 2016

Sorry racist and bigot, you and Helpy know not what you talk about. I’ll stick with the facts from the AP and Carrier spokesperson. 1300 out and 1000 remain. That’s certainly better than all 2300 leaving. That’s what they were planning because of the Dems excessive regulations and rules.
Why don’t you ask the 1000 who are keeping their jobs what they think?

    2. I Am Helpy December 1, 2016

      – you

    3. Aaron_of_Portsmouth December 1, 2016

Godzilla, you do run your mouth on and on. Just a lot of hot breath from Godzilla.

      1. Eleanore Whitaker December 2, 2016

Godzilla is like Trump. So full of himself, he may any day soon explode his nut bag ego.

Godzilla is one of those men who sits back and pretends he is above all of the rest of his fellow Americans. He has to. He freeloads MORE than any of us do.

Men like Godzilla always fail. Always. Why? Because they allow those cocky, bloated egos to be their crutch for not having to pay their dues in this life. What they want is to work 5 years, live off as much of the federal tax cuts and subsidies as they can and then because they KNOW how GUILTY they are, lob their GUILT on everyone else. Guilty men always shout from the rafters so no one else can be heard. But that’s just their ploy to avoid their guilt. Isn’t that exactly what Trump does?

        1. Mama Bear December 2, 2016

Godzilla is a paid troll. He is paid on the number of comments he garners. Letting him get under your skin gets him a little bonus in his paycheck. Starve him – I guarantee he will go away, I’ve seen them run from sites when no one bothers to engage them.

          1. Eleanore Whitaker December 2, 2016

MB…I realize that. But, that is how the right wing sunk Hillary. Smearing her reputation when she’s done nothing wrong. Smearing everything Obama did.

If this is the only way these right wingers earn a living, how low do they need to get before they make reptiles jealous?

          2. Mama Bear December 2, 2016

I think they are fundamentally angry ugly people who love to poke at a pile of crap and make it stink. They are people who would drown a bag of kittens and laugh. They are much much lower that reptiles.

          3. pisces63 December 2, 2016

Then the idiot leader wants a man fired and fined in disgrace for doing the exact thing they accused Hillary of. Petraeus.

          5. dpaano December 2, 2016

Yes, Eleanore, but responding to them will never change their minds, so as far as I am concerned, why bother? I just ignore their rants because they’re such idiots that I don’t need to waste my time trying to put them straight….it just doesn’t work!

this is corporate welfare, pure and simple.

      1. Natalie Jarnstedt December 2, 2016

At taxpayer expense. Not only are taxpayers of Indiana liable for the $7 million, but includes those few workers who are staying behind.

    5. Eleanore Whitaker December 2, 2016

So Fing What? These businesses bitch, moan and whine about the cost of labor. Carrier said they will be paying $24 a week to Mexican employees and they are not responsible for any employee benefits or US taxes. Meanwhile, they will get tens of millions in U.S. tax subsidies for the remainder of time they remain in the US.

Do you have a brain in your butt? Or do you just think YOU know it ALL?

    6. johninPCFL December 2, 2016

Ummm…Pence “saved” those jobs at great expense to Indiana taxpayers. There was no elimination of waste, there was only an increase in government spending, which thanks to Pence, they will have to borrow to pay for.
Trump railed against this kind of bullshit for the last 18 months while campaigning, and then at the first opportunity, just jumps right into the “swamp” with the rest.

    7. A_Real_Einstein December 3, 2016

You have been played you idiot. He just gave Carrier $7,000,000 to still move jobs to Mexico. Where is the 35% tariff on all those air conditioners coming back like he promised. Bozo the Clown said they would volunteer to stay and would not require any corporate welfare.. You are obviously one of the poorly educated Bozo talked about. You are going to learn what fascism is now. Be prepared to be ruled by the corporations and the military. Have a nice day, rube.

  2. donnaheitmann December 1, 2016

One yr have passed since I left my previous work and i couldn’t be happier now… I started to work from comfort of my house, over a website I found over internet, several hrs each day, and I make much more than i did on my old work… Paycheck i got for last month was for $9000… Amazing thing about this job is the more free time i got with my family… http://chilp.it/13548ef

  3. Aaron_of_Portsmouth December 1, 2016

Just window dressing to give the impression that he’s doing something useful.

    1. Natalie Jarnstedt December 2, 2016

      Add manipulation to this mix….

      1. dpaano December 2, 2016

Typical way that Trump makes his so-called deals…….bribery, threats, and anything else he can figure out to intimidate people! That’s his “Art of the Deal” for sure! Unfortunately, this is NOT the way this nation has been run or should be run!

    2. Dominick Vila December 2, 2016

As well as deception. He did not entice Carrier to keep some of its operations in the USA, Pence did, using Indiana’s taxpayers monies.
BTW, the average assembly line worker at Carrier makes around $70K a year with overtime. Most only have a HS diploma. Most of the taxpayers that will pay for this bribe make substantially less than they do.

      1. dpaano December 2, 2016

Wow, I wish I made that much……that’s about $20,000 less than I make and I have a HS diploma AND an MBA! I’ve been in the workplace for over 50+ years, and I would LOVE to make that kind of money…..but, I have a job that is stable, family-owned by Germans (who CARE about their employees), and isn’t going anywhere. We’re already multi-national, but we’ve never shipped our business or laid off employees to move to other countries and take away from companies already here in the U.S.

    3. dpaano December 2, 2016

Along with his respective billionaire buddies that he’s digging out of the swamp and putting on his cabinet and to run important departments in our government.

      1. jmprint December 2, 2016

        It’s no longer a swamp, now it’s a cesspool.

        1. dpaano December 2, 2016

You’ve got that right, and it gets worse every day with every new nomination! I read in the LA Times this morning that this is the richest group of people being nominated than any other past president!

  4. Eleanore Whitaker December 2, 2016

Carrier already said it is STILL planning the move to Mexico. Pence and Trump outright lied and said they save 1,000 jobs. The actual number according to Carrier is 700 and only because those are the employees left behind to close up the facility.

Trump made a sneaky, underhanded deal to hand Pence the VP spot and in return Pence got that deal because the people in his state hate him and blame him for not allowing them to move their businesses into the hi teach world.

Here is what Carrier said about their move to Mexico, “The cost of labor in Mexico is $24 a week compared to the $30 an hour the Carrier employees are paid. Cost of labor is the No. 1 reason businesses move out of the US.”

So now you know. Big businesses don’t leave the U.S. for any reason other than because they cannot pay cheap labor rates to Americans like they do in Mexico, China, Thailand and India.

But the most appalling thing the right wing and big business boys won’t admit is that for all their attempts to stagnate US wages, the reason for the need for $15 an hour minimum wages is directly related to the CEOs who are earning billions in annual incomes, plus tens of millions in bonuses and their stock options that add another few million. The money is ALL in their pockets. That’s why the cost of goods in the U.S. are outrageous and WHY Americans cannot possibly afford the price of the goods and services on $24 a week wages.

The biggest right wing mouths are the ones who scream the loudest that CEOs should be allowed to hold all of the profits at the top for themselves and then whine about having to pay American wages.

You bet they won’t lower the prices of their goods and services, not when it is a direct link to their next billion dollar salary increase.

    1. dpaano December 2, 2016

AND, most of these so-called big corporations usually find loopholes that keep them from paying any taxes at all, so all the money they get as profits goes to the CEO’s and the shareholders and NOT to the people who actually make the product. The problem with Trump’s plan to lower the tax rate for the big corporations in an effort to get them to hire more people is that nothing will happen…..the CEO’s and shareholders will just get bigger dividends, bigger raises, etc., and NOTHING will go for hiring more employees and making more products. What they don’t understand, and what most of us who think logically DO understand, is that making more products isn’t going to help our economy if the population can’t afford to purchase those products! Why these so-called brilliant individuals and right wing idiots don’t see that is beyond me! It’s pretty clear to most of us on this site and has been all along!
The bigger problem is that Trump is bringing on board millionaires and billionaires, people who have NO concept of how the poor and middle-class survive! They have a totally different mindset than the average person in the United States…..they’ve never had to worry about how to live day by day; how to pay the rent; how to make the mortgage payment; how to pay for their healthcare, etc…..they have MORE than enough money so they don’t have to worry…..but, we the people, we DO have to worry about these things and their plans for our future doesn’t take any of that into consideration! All they will do is make themselves richer and the rest of us poorer!

  5. Box December 2, 2016

Excellent! Im glad Sanders said that. Let them all threaten so that Congress will have an even greater incentive to lower the corporate tax rate. Trump proposes a 15% rate which to me to too much of a break. Business can handle 25% before they contemplate leaving and I hope it gets capped off around there. Thats the compromise.

    1. bobnstuff December 2, 2016

When Trump is done giving away the store corporate rates will mean nothing. They will end up paying not taxes like EXXON. Very few business actually pay anywhere close to the 35% rate. Your 25% number would be great if you could get the corporations to pay that much. Economic growth has never been tied to tax cuts. In fact higher taxes have created more growth because of reinvesting in the companies.

      1. dpaano December 2, 2016

I agree….look at Kansas and Louisiana. Both of these states experimented with Reaganomics (trickle-down economy) and where did it end up for them? They are both close to bankruptcy. Kansas, for example, has had to drain their educational, healthcare, and social programs funds just to feed their general account and pay their day-to-day bills. Who does this hurt? It hurts their population…..their schools are among the worst in the nation, and there are more deaths from health problems and more people on welfare in both of these states! So, how did that experiment work? Trump is now wanting to do the very same thing…..experiment with something that has already proven not to be workable! Apparently, he and his billionaire cronies don’t seem to understand that because they have NO concept of how the middle class lives or survives on a day-to-day basis!

      2. 788eddie December 2, 2016

Please remember, folks, that what corporations don’t pay in taxes has to be made up from somewhere else? All of the bills due from out military /industrial complex, firefighters, police, road & bridge repair, schools to educate our future (so A,erica cancontinue to be great), etc. Oh, and I forgot to mention, the salaries for all of our politicians.

Let’s see . . .the poor (nope, they don’t have any money); how about the very wealthy . . . (nope, they’re the ones getting the bigger tax breaks) . . . I wonder just who will get stuck?

        1. bobnstuff December 2, 2016

We know that it can’t be the middle class that will pick up the bill because Trump promised them a tax cut and he never lies.

    2. Aaron_of_Portsmouth December 2, 2016

It’s all about taxes and other material benefits for you. Where have your sentiments of nobility, empathy, and inclusiveness drifted off to?
Box, you’ve become a perfect spokesman for Materialism.

  6. Box December 2, 2016

This is all on Obama-Hillary. Companies and people have been leaving at record amounts, renunciation of citizenship is also at record highs. Its not about a company or even a tax rate, its about the horrors Obama created. If Obama was so great, why do people want to leave, and have left in record numbers? You think they were stupid and didnt know what they were doing? You think the co-founder of Facebook was stupid? Ford and Carrier are just plain stupid and ignorant? Obama wrecked everything for companies and people.

    1. Aaron_of_Portsmouth December 2, 2016

Box, you’re become the equivalent of a whore for Trump. Trump is pimping you big time, and the GOP has already filled your head with insanity. This fetish of yours to launch into constant tirades against Obama, Hillary, display an abnormal thrill you derive from such posts—posts that give you your daily orgasm.
You’ve already made it abundantly clear of the animosity towards Obama because he didn’t live up to what YOU expected. Are you telling us that Trump lives up to your expectations of a person who tweets epithets against women and Hispanics, and that you approve of the racists flocking to him in effusive praise?

Box, your brain has gone haywire
Not one thoughtful, measured, and calm response have you uttered.

“O SON OF DUST! Verily I say unto thee: Of all men the most negligent is he that disputeth idly and seeketh to advance himself over his brother. Say, O brethren! Let deeds, not words, be your adorning.”

Box, you should consider the above and seek to divest yourself of the animus you have towards whole groups based on the shallow benchmark of jobs, material benefits promised, and the ability to tout nationalism and racist rhetoric.

    2. pisces63 December 2, 2016

You imbecilic ignoramus. They did nothing. Obama kept Ford solvent, I know, I live in Ohio and jobs were kept and created. I cannot stand dim bulbs who make up lies. Companies are leaving to save money and have been for years. What do you think happened to Michigan, Ohio, etc? My husband’s job moved in 1982 due to the oil embargo, should I blame Reagan? We had to start all over. People want to leave now because a sexual assaulter, amoral, miscreant with KKK and white supremacist ties has been elected. Get off Obama. Look at the unemployment numbers and considering most of the carrier jobs are still leaving, this whole thing is bogus. Someone tell me when his off shore jobs are coming to America!!

      1. dpaano December 2, 2016

I agree with you, but the Trump trolls are too narrow minded to see what’s really happening. They want to continue blaming the one person that did the most for this country! They want to continue to believe all the conspiracy theories thrown out there by the Republicans without even using their dimwit brains to see that these are just lies and scare tactics! Yes, President Obama DID keep Ford solvent with the bail-out and kept MANY more jobs here than Trump has with Carrier…..Carrier and United Technologies has a couple of other companies in Indiana that are going to move to Mexico…..I wonder if he’ll offer them more bribes and use threats to keep them here……guess that’s the way that this nation will “deal” with companies now that Trump is in power! It’s the way he’s been doing business before he was elected…..he isn’t going to change.

    3. jmprint December 2, 2016

Obama was and is great, you’re just to ignorant to know better, but that’s not surprising you have been ignorant from day one you started posting here. Like they say you can’t change stupid.

    4. 788eddie December 2, 2016

Hey, Box, it’s quite refreshing, after reading all of the previously well written commentary and questions asked, to then get to a complete idiot.

      At best, you amuse me.

Generally though, your efforts are so sad. So sad.

    5. The lucky one December 3, 2016

“Box” Hmm, is that shorthand for “Dumber than a box of rocks”?

    6. A_Real_Einstein December 3, 2016

When Obama took office we were losing nearly 800,000 jobs per month. GDP growth was negative 8%. We are now in the middle of the longest streak of private-sector job creation in history. Obama has created more than 14 million new jobs; the strongest two years of job growth since the 1990s; and an unemployment rate cut in half (4.6%). The DOW has gone from 7,000 to over 19,000. Gas is $2 a gallon and inflation is under 2%. He saved the American auto industry from extinction; the financial services industry from self destruction and the global economy from a great depression. The energy industry is booming. Real estate values have more than recovered. Mortgage rates for 4%. If he were a Republican with those results; they would be calling him god. They would be pushing for a constitutional amendment to allow him to serve additional Presidential terms. But unfortunately now the poorly educated like you just voted for fascism. Enjoy being ruled by the corporations and the military. You have been played for an idiot.

  7. kermithumphrey1@yahoo.com December 2, 2016

I just wonder what the brilliant socialist bernie sanders would have done.It is bad enough that this great senator wants everyone to pay for all his wants, but when a problem is actually solved this king of stupid stands up and says it isnt good enough

    1. pisces63 December 2, 2016

Why do people say someone wants someone else to pay for things. I have worked over 30 years and hope to retire next year. I am a 67 year old woman. When I started here, at a health insurance company, I could conceivably make 10% salary raises per year, depending on performance and attendance. My lowest raise was 9.5% back then. NOW?? Less than 3% across the board. You have to jump through hoops for that. Our paid holidays are down to 4 from 8. We have lost instead of gained. Non union. Not socialist. fairness. Why are we losing? WE ARE working. We do not want a handout and still they take from us. WHY? Why are you satisfied with that. I look at union workers of by gone era, UAW, USW, etc. They had jobs and benefits that were awesome. A welder could get paid $25/hr as my husband did in a foundry in 1982. today, people thing $12/hr is wonderful. How are you happy going backwards in pay and not forwards, yet, the CEOS jumped 7 to 10 X what they earned, THEN. No accusation. Explain your reasoning. I, for one, prefer a Ford worker making, all be it with overtime, $80.000.00 a year, instead of service jobs at $13/hr.

      1. dpaano December 2, 2016

And, the funny about the Carrier deal is that Carrier and it’s parent company, United Technologies, realized an $8B profit last year and gave their CEO a $175M “golden parachute” deal last year also. Why do they now need a $7M tax write-off at the expense of Indiana taxpayers? And, as Sanders says, what is going to stop other companies from using the same mantra to get tax write offs? They’re going to be lining up in front of the White House demanding the same kind of a deal. Trump is going to be a busy man trying to please everyone all the time! And, this is NOT putting unemployed people back to work…..it’s keeping employed people in jobs. Seems he should be working harder on putting the unemployed back to work!

        1. pisces63 December 2, 2016

The fact they have government contracts bother me. THAT should have been the bait to keep all jobs here…..or else!!

          1. jmprint December 2, 2016

Yeah, but Trump’s experience is only in getting freebies, so that’s what he will do for his rich corporate buddies.

  8. pisces63 December 2, 2016

He’s out there patting himself on the back for his win. WHY? He lost the popular vote and cannot handle it. He said he won by a land slide. UH, no he did not. Not even close to one. he cannot handle that, either. His popular vote loss continues to grow by the hour. I love saying, you lost, you just got the electoral votes.

    1. FT66 December 2, 2016

Trump likes showing-off very much and not easy for him to accept the reality. He lost the popular vote in a big way. He said if he wanted he could had campaigned in NY and CALI and win there. This is the man who slept and spent all nights in NY the entire campaign, taking his plane from NY and going to other states. Why didn’t he campaign in NY first before flying to anywhere.

      1. dpaano December 2, 2016

And, while he was doing that, charged the government for the use of his plane as well as charging them for the use of offices in the Trump Tower!

  9. dpaano December 2, 2016

I don’t often agree with everything Sanders said during his campaign, but he’s hit this one on the nose! What IS going to keep companies from asking for tax benefits, etc., and threatening to move their companies overseas? Additionally, just because the Carrier deal saved 1000 employees, what about the many others in the other United Technology plants that will be losing their jobs in the next year or so? Is he going to offer them the same advantages? Unfortunately, Trump is using his usual “bribe and threaten” tactics to get companies to do his bidding, and if that’s the way he is going to continue, it would be highly disappointing. This is NOT the way this nation “deals” with things like this…..but apparently, this has worked for Trump in his usual business dealings.

  10. 788eddie December 2, 2016

Okay, they (Trump supporters), are screaming, “We won! Get over it!”

Okay, let’s see what they can do. There is now no one to blame if they can’t pass budgets, avoid shutdowns, deal with sequestration, replace Obamacare, destroy ISIS or reverse the continuing loss of manufacturing jobs.

If the deficit goes up, it’s on them.

If unemployment starts going up again, it’s on them.

If climate change gets worse, it’s on them.

If there’s another successful terrorist attack (please remember that 9/11 occurred nine months into the last Republican administration) on U.S. soil, it’s on them.

If Syria continues its downward spiral, it’s on them.

If more countries acquire nuclear weapons, it’s on them.

My prediction is that by next year, a large percentage of GOP voters will be denying that they ever voted for Donald J. Trump.

But it will still be on them!

    1. drdroad December 4, 2016

He won because Russian hackers manipulated the vote and he’s upset the recounts will show that up.
