Campaigning Trump Calls News Media ‘Enemy Of The American People’

Trump on the attack against news media

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – After a tumultuous opening month in the White House, President Donald Trump is heading to a friendlier, familiar and potentially rejuvenating place: the campaign trail.

Beset by vicious fights over his Cabinet, legal setbacks over his immigration orders, the resignation of his national security adviser, and an investigation into possible links between his campaign and Russian intelligence, Trump is turning to the winning formula that vaulted him into the White House: big, adoring crowds and fiery, angry speeches.

He has replaced Hillary Clinton, his former Democratic presidential rival, with another familiar foil: news media outlets that have reported unflattering revelations of dysfunction or other problems in the White House. He has described them as “lying”, “corrupt”, “failing” and, late on Friday, as “the enemy of the American people.”

On Saturday, he holds a campaign rally in an airport hangar in Melbourne, Florida, just up the coast from his Mar-a-Lago resort where he will spend the weekend. The event gives Trump a chance to bypass what he says is an unfair media and take his message straight to his supporters.

“It will remind people that he still has a lot of support out there, and he probably needs the reminder,” said Republican strategist John Feehery. “When you are inside the bubble, it’s not a bad idea to reconnect with your supporters and get re-energized.”

Trump’s race against Clinton was marked by big, boisterous rallies, and the event in Florida is likely to be the first of many as he tries to appeal directly to his most passionate supporters and reframe his image following growing questions over his temperament and ties between his campaign and Russian intelligence.

Shortly after an unusually long and combative 77-minute presidential news conference on Thursday, Trump’s campaign sent out a fundraising email featuring a “media accountability survey” asking supporters about coverage.

“I’ve made it a point to cut through the media’s noise and go straight to the American people. It worked during the campaign, and it will work again over these next four years,” Trump said in the email.

Democrats countered with their own fundraising email, seeking donations to ensure “Trump is a one-term president.”

“First he had Republican primary opponents, then he had Hillary Clinton, and now he has the evil news media,” said Republican strategist Rich Galen. “He’s very comfortable in this kind of campaign mode.”

The Florida rally marks an extraordinarily early start to the 2020 White House campaign for Trump, who filed re-election papers with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) five hours after he was sworn in as president on Jan. 20. His predecessor, Barack Obama, filed the same form in April 2011, more than two years into his first term as president.

The paperwork was not a formal declaration of Trump’s candidacy, but allowed him to continue raising funds, including the money received from sales of his popular red “Make America Great Again” hats. The Trump campaign raised $9.6 million in December and had about $7.6 million on hand at the end of the year, the last time it was required to file a report with the FEC.

Obama and other presidents have traditionally held campaign-style events to support their legislative initiatives, but they were organized and paid for by the White House. Saturday’s rally will be organized and run by the campaign, the White House said.

Obama hit the road frequently in early 2009 to rally voters behind his economic stimulus package. But he was also supported by an outside group called Organizing for America that filled some of the role of a campaign organization by building grassroots backing for his policies.

By keeping his campaign intact, including his campaign website, Trump has made the concept of a “permanent campaign” into reality. The website, which features a photo of the inauguration, stresses Trump’s campaign cannot stop because “we still have much work to do.”

Trump’s first presidential event outside Washington was on Friday in North Charleston, South Carolina, where he visited an airplane plant operated by Boeing to celebrate the unveiling of its latest Dreamliner jet.

On Air Force One after the Charleston event, White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said Trump is headed back on to the campaign trail because the news media don’t always deliver his message well, and “he can do that very effectively by taking the stage and talking to the people of America.”

Trump’s early re-election campaign start has created some confusion for federal workers worried about possibly violating a U.S. law prohibiting them from engaging in political activity in the workplace.

The U.S. Office of Special Counsel, an independent government agency that protects federal bureaucrats from unfair personnel practices, issued guidance to federal workers last week after it said it received “numerous” questions about whether they can express their views on Trump given his intention to run for re-election.

Federal workers would violate the law if they start calling for his re-election or defeat while on duty, the memo said, but since the election is still three years away workers can express approval or disapproval of his policies or actions but “may not display signs in their office that read ‘Reelect Trump in 2020’ or express” views on his candidacy while in the workplace.

Once he formally announces his candidacy, the memo said, workers who are on duty or in the office cannot do anything “directed at the success or failure of his candidacy.”

Oh for crying-out-loud Mr. President stop the bull twaddle. Indeed there are folks who are the ‘enemy of the American People,’ it surely is not the media. It is way past time to put such childish claims aside, roll up your sleeve and start doing the job. Your personal problems with the media must be put aside for the good of the nation. Our friends and enemies are laughing at this disfunction of your administration. Get to work on the ‘real’ problems facing every day Americans.

Trumpie is playing the GOP playbook to its extreme: he’s really doubling down on deflection and trashing the messenger which together with fabrications of reality and lies is all Republicans really know how to do today.

And why is that? Because Republicans know absolutely nothing about governing, all they know about is how to be mobsters and work to steal American taxpayers blind to make themselves and their rich cronies even more wealthy than they already are.

Problem is Lynda, he had no intention of doing anything at least directly to help commoners. He lied to the displaced workers in the upper mid-west, because there is absolutely no way short of buying the jobs with 100% public funds, that high paying manufacturing jobs are going to return to that part of the country. With the Tax Cuts he wants to enact, even if he manages to get some of the jobs that went over seas to come home they will return to “right to work” States.

You are correct sir. However, don’t try wasting your breath trying to explain that to the rubes still believing all of this nonsense coming from Trump and the administration. They actually believe that as if by magic some white knight is going to spends multi-millions building modern plants to compete with foreign steel and manufactured goods. Those multi-generational coal miners think that the industry will stop removing mountain tops with a few heavy machine operators and go back to large work forces digging in the ground. Forget the fact that the fracking of natural gas, and not Obama, in large part took away their jobs.

The REAL enemy of the people is the guy wearing the stuffed squirrel on his head. A very poor emulation of Daniel Boone. I’m amazed that his ego fits on Air Force One. He’s so thin skinned that the least little bump would rupture his skin and let his ego go flitting around the room like an escaped balloon.

The number one enemy of people is called Donald J. Trump. This man doesn’t want any survival of people. He wants to take away their healthcare and leave them wait to die without any help. Who never fell sick in the entire life? If he takes ACA away, won’t be signing for those who have been beneficiaries of ACA to die? He is enemy number one of people whether he likes or not.

In essence, Trump is so like 2 of the former CEOs I once worked for. He makes all the decisions, hates anyone around him with more experience, education or expertise, believes fully in “keeping employees on edge” and being the only voice that dares to speak. One problem with that…Trump is not our BOSS. WE are HIS boss.

It is time the Republican Confederacy faced that fact before we have to literally hire a moving van and fill it with Republicans and haul them back to their hick states.

They are thwarting a Cover Up and they know it. Anyone who believes Ryan and McConnell didn’t know in October about the Russian hacking needs a lobotomy. There are 17 U.S. and European Intel agencies who have documentation that the U.S. election was hacked into by Russian hackers. But the Republicans will do anything now, just like they did during WaterGate to Cover Up their guilt.

Their plan was to try and get the American public to see past election rigging and “get over it.” Really? So, if the Confederate hick politicians get their wish, what’s next? Get over Women’s Rights? Civil Rights for minorities?

The cancer in this country IS the Republican Party. It all started with them. Republicans allowed Trump to run as a Republican.

But you know what I find most humorous? The Republican boys thought they were all soooooo smart and that if they allowed Trump to run on a presidential ticket, Mr. Art of the Deal would turn everything he does in the White House into a business deal they would ALL profit from. Meanwhile, Trump saw these dippy airheads as easy to manipulate and all he ever had to do was charm the pants off them. Tell me again Republican men like Ryan, McConnell, Cornyn, Gohmert, Gowdy, Cotton and Chaffetz are not a bunch of dopes who can’t tie their own shoelaces without help and are too stupid to live.

Wait!…What’s that sound? Oh …silence that is deafening from the Trump supporters Forgotten People who expected him to create jobs for them. Well well well..now that thousands are being deported, why aren’t these hicks running for those jobs left vacant by the immigrants? Don’t like working in a hot CA farm field? A blood and guts slaughterhouse? Cleaning airport toilets? Mowing your own grass and taking down your own trees? Not exactly a Nanny type?

Forgotten People are as bad at lying as Trump. They wanted all the jobs they claimed the immigrants stole from them. Well? Get to it. Just one teensy weensy probbo…You will not earn American wages. Remember, whenever the owners of these businesses are allowed to replace workers, they can start the new hires at salaries lower than those who left the jobs. Way to Go Morons!

And now the White House is doubling down on denial in its war on immigrants. There’s a story out the WH is contemplating mobilizing 100,000 National Guard troops to go around Gestapo style and flush out illegal immigrants for deportation.

Trump and his cronies are demonizing all immigrants so much, that I’m just waiting for spring and companies to really go out looking for immigrants to do the hard work that you described. My hunch is that if Trumpie keeps up his demonizing of immigrants and deportations, we’re going to see wholesale bankruptcies and closing of hundreds maybe thousands of companies across the nation as farmers, contractors, people who run hotels & motels, and on and on can’t find people to do all the hard work they need done to stay in business.

See this on the 100,000 National Guard troops:

The Trump administration is considering mobilizing 100,000 members of the National Guard to act as a mass deportation force against undocumented immigrants, the Associated Press reports. A leaked draft memo obtained by the AP outlines a plan that involves “unprecedented militarization of immigration enforcement as far north as Portland, Oregon, and as far east as New Orleans, Louisiana.”

The leaked document makes clear, however, that National Guard members will only be mobilized in different states to round up immigrants if the governors of those states approve of using them for the operation.

The memo in question was written by Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly, the AP claims.

Trump is well known for his “threats” he hopes will intimidate others he considers weakest.

Unless Trump can begin to deal with all of those campaign issues he promised and has already reneged on several, all he is doing is making business deals using our tax dollars.

Not to worry. All may seem lost at the moment. But, Trump and his cabinet are guilty of some of the MOST serious legal violations during his campaign and in this first 100 days.

If the Republicans continue to stop investigations, they only make themselves as guilty as Trump. They are really out to save Ryan and McConnell’s bacon and they know it.

Americans cannot afford to look the other way at Russian hacking and compromising our elections. And, the worst is we have NO idea what ELSE they are doing with all that datamined information they gathered.

Here’s an example. Let’s say that they managed to datamine Dem voters personal information and links to their financial investments. How wouldn’t that be a huge risk to everyone else who has retirement accounts? This is why under NO circumstances can the Republican Party EVER be allowed to just sweep it all under the rug.

The very fact that at present they are trying to distract the public by focusing on “who” in the Intel community is leaking this information is proof that they are intending to do precisely what Cheney and Rove tried to do…out Valerie Plame, a CIA agent. If Trump and his boys dare to out CIA agents, they will end up in prison this time.

A hope we may have, a hope at least to some degree, is that leaders of the GOP will start listening to John McCain as he makes it clear the danger that Trump not only presents to America and the world, but also to the GOP. John McCain really trashed Trump in a speech he gave to the Munich Security Conference.

Here are some excerpts from McCain’s Senate web page:

“Not every American understands the absolutely vital role that
Germany and its honorable Chancellor, Chancellor Merkel, are playing in defense of the idea and the conscience of the West. But for all of us who do, let me say thank you. “My friends: In the four decades I have attended this conference, I cannot recall a year where its purpose was more necessary or more important.

“The next panel asks us to consider whether the West will survive. In recent years, this question would invite accusations of hyperbole and alarmism. Not this year. If ever there were a time to treat this question with a deadly seriousness, it is now.

“What would von Kleist’s generation say if they saw our world today? I fear that much about it would be all-too-familiar to them, and they would be alarmed by it.

“They would be alarmed by an increasing turn away from universal values and toward old ties of blood, and race, and sectarianism.

“They would be alarmed by the hardening resentment we see toward immigrants, and refugees, and minority groups, especially Muslims.

“They would be alarmed by the growing inability, and even unwillingness, to separate truth from lies.

“They would be alarmed that more and more of our fellow citizens seem to be flirting with authoritarianism and romanticizing it as our moral equivalent.

“But what would alarm them most, I think, is a sense that many of our peoples, including in my own country, are giving up on the West … that they see it as a bad deal that we may be better off without … and that while Western nations still have the power to maintain our world order, it is unclear whether we have the will.

From the ashes of the most awful calamity in human history was born what we call the West—a new, and different, and better kind of world order … one based not on blood-and-soil nationalism, or spheres of influence, or conquest of the weak by the strong, but rather on universal values, rule of law, open commerce, and respect for national sovereignty and independence. Indeed, the entire idea of the West is that it open to any person or any nation that honors and upholds these values.

“I know there is profound concern across Europe and the world that America is laying down the mantle of global leadership. I can only speak for myself, but I do not believe that is the message you will hear from all of the American leaders who cared enough to travel here to Munich this weekend. That is not the message you heard today from Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis. That is not the message you will hear from Vice President Mike Pence. That is not the message you will hear from Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly. And that is certainly not the message you will hear tomorrow from our bipartisan congressional delegation.

For his speech in its entirety, go here (Although he said a lot of good things, even if Trump is impeached, Mike Pence and his cohorts continue to pose great danger to the less than already fortunate – the not already Elite Americans.)

They can’t really think that Trump would create jobs in hi tech industries or today’s Clean Energy industries. He has NEVER created any job that didn’t make huge profits for him by using the cheapest possible immigrant labor. We in NJ saw all of the immigrants he hired in the Taj Mahal and his Marina casino.

You’ll love this one. The new owner of Trump’s old casinos is in the process of having all 17 of the towering Trump signs torn down. Except for one. I don’t know if this is intentional or not but the last sign that remains has the letter “T” removed so that the word HUMP is all you can see.

I suspect that the crews working at the base of these buildings are grinning from ear to ear because NJ shores have been pretty warm and sunny for the last week or so. (Wink, wink, nod, nod) roflmao.

Actually, most of these industries that laid off workers have switched to robotics and the laid-off workers didn’t bother to get off their barcaloungers and go to a vocational school and learn a new skill so that they could work. Nothing that 45 can do will give them their jobs back, but they just don’t seem to understand that. The so-called “illegal” immigrants did NOT take their jobs….the robots did! The truth is that the ones calling themselves Forgotten People are lazy bums who want the kinds of jobs, as you pointed out, that no longer exist.

There will be plenty of job vacancies now that so many are being deported en masse. But, these are NOT the jobs these lazy bums want. There are plenty of jobs in landscaping (too hot in summer, whine whine, too many blisters mowing grass, chopping trees, whine whine whine and trimming hedges.) There are jobs in airports cleaning toilets(more whine whine whine, “on no! Can’t do that! too unhealthy and Icky) and let’s not forget the blood, guts and gore jobs in slaughterhouses cleaning up the floors (Oh No! That’s not a job for me whine whine whine!)

No matter how the right wingers try to smear liberals, moderates and progressives here in the US, they know Trump is also hated in the UK where there are a million UK protestors demanding Trump not be allowed to meet with their Queen. Sweden is not exactly thrilled with the way Trump smeared their crime rate.

He filed the papers to run in 2020 days after the inauguration. There are certain rules and benefits to doing so, It allows him to bill his campaign, regulate who is allowed or not allowed at rallies, and of course line his pocket, always the first order of business. It’s also an easy way to funnel money especially if it involves the billions sitting in Cayman accts from an oil deal with Russia. As of yet, the shell corporations haven’t been traced back to him. YET.
But trump will screw up because he doesn’t know the rules. His arrogance, greed and lack of knowledge will be his downfall.

I guess the job isn’t as exciting as he had hoped so he needs a road trip. Here’s an idea. A week without Trump. The media can take a week of from reporting on anything that Trump does or says. They could focus on the congress and their actions. It would drive Trump over the edge. He hates the media but I bet he would hate them more if they didn’t give him headlines every day.

You know Trump has problems with spelling. He meant, Make America GRATE Again. He has already cost taxpayers more for his 3 vacations in a single month than the last 2 presidents.

Actually, I do believe Trump wants not just to control what we see and hear but also what we are allowed to say in public. What next? Big Brother Watching?

This guy is headed for disaster by his own doing. He refuses to allow experts to make ANY suggestions, surrounds himself with ONLY people he knows are dumber than he is and then expects them to compete with experts Trump calls, “The Establishment” as if earning a PhD in Science and spending two or more decades in a science career is somehow evil.

When he exhibits the kind of racially bigoted behavior he did toward the female black journalist at the press conference this week, he shows all those things he tries desperately to hide. It was he and his Daddy who back in their real estate hostile takeovers who refused to rent to blacks in their Manhattan hotels and apartments.

The picture of Trump is the one people here in NJ know best. He got a fine for allowing Muslim high rollers to launder money in his casinos, so now he has to get even with Muslims. He refused to pay his hotel and casino workers and contractors most of whom are Hispanics and immigrants, so now he has to get even with Hispanics and immigrants. Never mind that Melania Trump is the most dangerous immigrant in the US at present. She is a native of Slovenia, a Russian territory and her parents are not exactly unkind to Putin.

Even the Congress is getting frustrated because they don’t know where to go or what to do from day to day!!! They can’t get anything done because they are constantly having to fight off all the BS that 45’s laying out there! It’s pretty interesting that even his OWN party is having problems dealing with him!
They will get NOTHING done as long as he’s off “campaigning” and doing absolutely nothing! He’s just going to keep reiterating all the things that he’s going to do or has done, but in reality, he’s done nothing but cause major chaos in this country!

Trump has replaced Hillary Clinton, his former Democratic presidential rival, with another familiar foil: news media outlets that have reported unflattering revelations of dysfunction or other problems in the White House. He has described them as “lying”, “corrupt”, “failing” and, late on Friday, as “the enemy of the American people.” //// ((“lying”, “corrupt”, “failing”))) these 3 things are all true DONNY DUMP things he is and to add more truth to the DUMPSTER CLOWN he is a coward 5 time draft dodger (and the clown has the stones to talk bad about others that served in the military ) and going on the DUMPSTER also is a rapist women beater a fraud com and a scammer and anyother bad thing that can be called in sure he is also . he is a big piece of human waste that should be flushed to never return again

I find many of the comments so ludicrous. That people can conjure such tripe, is amazing. To accuse (tongue in cheek), President Trump of poor spelling like Eleanore (make America GRATE again), the “real enemy of the people” by jakenhyde and FT66……..patronizing each other is too amusing, and consoling each other. The sorest losers. In some developing countries people revolt when their party losers. In the US I have witnessed the worst type of verbal and written abuse one can imagine. Sorry guys, President Trump is your president too. My opinion is that you don’t deserve him. Have you not noticed that he is the same man now that he was when he was campaigning for president. There is nothing false about this man. There is a freshness about him, despite his age. A certain brilliance, despite his shortcomings, that you so focus on. Continue licking your wounds.

AP, the real issue is WE recognize he is our President, unlike the eight years of Right-wing denial of President Obama’s term in office.
I believe in treating our current President with the same level of courtesy and respect with which he treated his predecessor. It’s called “turnabout is fair play”.

Of course if the President can convince enough people that the media is dishonest, then the only place to get reliable news will be from the one that put the ring in your nose and is leading you down the garden path.

Trump, the narrowly elected, self-appointed tinpot dictator of ‘Murica, has declared war on the media. What else does “enemy of the American people” mean?
Aside from the obvious, glaring errors — like the Founders’ Constitutional protections for a free press, and his own lucrative career as a “reality TV” host and current earnings as executive producer of Celebrity Apprentice — how does Trump plan to combat the “enemy” that carries his messages, airs his schlocky TV farce, and fills our screens with text and video?
Every day of this failed administration brings new depths of Dumb.

I watched his news/press conference in dismay..the man was rambling, incoherent at times and downright hateful, which has been his stock and trade..without the news and the media, people would be living in “blissful ignorance” of what is going on in the world around them..there are those I am sure who will hang on his every word as if it were the bible, without fact checking or questioning the self appointed dictator or monarch, but I for one am not of that mindset..read,flip the channels and compare..fact check and you will find mr trump is in a national enquirer or fox news frame of mind and also denies the very truths of what he has said or done that have been shown in his videos and statements..

And now, with his presidency, you can plan on seeing a steady flow of our dimes into the pockets of people like the Koch brothers and other corporate shareholders. Corporations will be lining the trough that is being prepared by the GOP for huge helpings of even more corporate welfare than currently exists in addition to opening up the environment for them to release their waste- starting with coal companies into streams. Guess who will be first affected and who will be asked to pay for it. The answer to that is in the mirror.

So very true…..the Koch Bros. have their hands in every aspect of our government….for example, look at Pruitt, one of 45’s nominees. He’s so far up the butts of the Koch Brothers that it’s pitiful! Do you think he’s really going to do anything for the environment? Seriously?
I’m just glad that I live in a state that does not have a big coal industry problem…..we don’t have to worry about having coal ash, etc., dumped into our streams and waterways! When it happens in other states, I can’t wait to hear 45’s so-called followers start screaming for government help when their water is polluted, etc. They haven’t thought ahead to that problem, I’m sure. They will end up paying for their idiocy, but so will the majority of us who did NOT vote for 45!

It’s nice to see there are still crowds protesting Trump. See this from the conservative website Blabber/Buzz:

‘Not My President’s Day’ rallies held across country

CBS Los Angeles reports organizers say they chose to rally on the holiday as a way to honor past presidents by exercising their constitutional right to assemble and peacefully protest.

In downtown Los Angeles, thousands gathered outside city hall
chanting “Love, not hate, makes America great,” reports CBSLA’s Margaret
      Carrero.

The protesters had signs reading “Trump is treason” and “the art of the liar.”

I’m thrilled to see the liberals, millennials, and the younger generation becoming activists must like we became activists during the Viet Nam War (actually, I was in the military during the war, but I was there in spirit). I’m not sure exactly what these marches will accomplish, but we need to keep doing it! We need to keep these people involved and get them out helping people get registered to vote. There are so many in some states that are unable to get registered for one reason or another, and we need to mobilize these activists to get out and get these people registered before 2018 and the midterms. If these feelings keep on that are seen in these marches, we may have a chance to win back some of the seats in the Senate, the House, and maybe even the Congress!

It’s galling, but the President does have to fly around in Air Force One — even if it’s just to attend his kid’s away games — because it has all his super-secret presidential stuff in it.
The meter is running on how much Trump is costing though. So far, he’s consumed more in personal travel benefits in one month than Obama’s whole family did in an entire year.

Plus, it could cost the taxpayers even more because both the NYPD and the Palm Beach PD spend thousands of dollars on extra security whenever 45 is in New York or in Palm Beach! They are attempting to bill the Federal government for the costs, but if the Federal government is anything like 45…..they’ll end up being “stiffed” for the money! But, it’s costing us, the taxpayers, money for his little “jaunts” to and from Florida and New York!!! And, I agree, it’s amazing that the Republicans are suddenly so quiet about this money when they were so up in arms about President Obama taking a family vacation to Hawaii occasionally (like the president isn’t allowed a vacation….seriously?).

What’s interesting is that the biggest purveyor of “false news” is FOX News; yet, this is the ONE station that our president seems to go to the most! It’s a provable fact that this particular news outlet (and I use the word “News” lightly because it’s so far from being actual news that it’s ridiculous) is the one station that lies the most and puts out the most false news….right up there with Breitbart!

I so agree…..45 is addicted to listening to CNN (so he can jot down everything they say that’s against him) and FAUX News. He has NO concept of what is real or fake as far as news is concerned. And, the best part is that he wouldn’t know the difference if it fell on top of him! The only newspapers he reads, from what I understand, is the National Enquirer and Breitbart!! Neither of these are what I would consider “valid news sources!” It’s really pretty sad that we have to deal with this coming from someone who is supposed to be leading this country……he needs to start doing his job and stop going on so-called “campaign” trips and using up taxpayer money for the use of Air Force One and police protection when he’s in New York or Palm Beach (both of which have billed the Federal government and will probably end up getting stiffed much like 45’s contractors)! It’s amazing that when President Obama did the same thing when he flew to and from Hawaii on vacation…..the Republicans were all over it! Apparently, it’s okay if 45 does it….whole different program, I guess! Either way you look at it, it’s still our hard-earned taxpayer money that he’s using!!!
