This Week In Crazy: ‘May God Have Mercy On Our Nation’

Share

We are gathered here today not to mourn the death but to puzzle over the life of the Grand Old Party, laid to rest this week when a tangerine-toupeed interloper from the Big City stole the nomination from a host of social conservatives. Welcome to “This Week In Crazy,” The National Memo’s weekly update on the loony, bigoted, and hateful behavior of the increasingly unhinged right wing. Starting with number five:

5. Tila Hubrecht

A conservative Missouri state lawmaker would like to remind women who have been raped to always look on the bright side of life.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, while arguing in favor of a bill that would grant personhood rights to unborn fetuses — in effect, making any abortion illegal — Tila Hubrecht, a Republican in the Missouri House of Representatives said: “It is not up to us to say, ‘No, just because there was a rape, they [unborn fetuses] cannot exist.”

She continued:  “Sometimes bad things happen. Horrible things. But sometimes God can give us a silver lining through the birth of a child.”

The remarks echo those of Indiana Republican Richard Mourdock, who during his (failed) 2012 run for U.S. Senate, said that if pregnancy occurs following a rape, it should be viewed as a “gift from God.”

Ultimately, the House voted 112-36 to advance the measure. According to the Dispatch, its text states it would “protect pregnant women and unborn children by recognizing that an unborn child is a person with a right to life which cannot be deprived by state or private action without due process and equal protection of law.”

It would appear that, for some people, giant corporations and zygotes are equivalent. They both carry the rights of people. I guess the only difference is that giant corporations have unlimited money to spend on political campaigns, but zygotes have no money at all. It’s everyone in between who seem to be ignored.

As it turns out zygotes, or I should say the advocacy for the personhood of them, are real money makers for RW politicians trying to fill their Party’s, or their own coffers for reelection. Just one more way our current pay to play system is mangling our public policies. As it is almost always the most radical elements demanding the most extreme measures, that are some of the most prolific donors. It’s why as you say, everyone in between is seeming to be ignored. They are!

Yet, explain to this 67 year old black woman because people like Kevin O’Brien of the Plain Dealer cannot. YOu fight to save a fertilized egg, cheer because our idiot governor signed legislation to defund PPH. No birth control, either. They cut money for SNAP. People are living on the streets because now welfare barely issues any money. Of all people receiving monetary funds under welfare, half are in California and the rest over the other 49 states. Really?? Infant mortality is worse than in third world countries here, in Ohio. They want to protect eggs but throw the living down the drain and I am not getting it. WHAT am I missing!!!

Obviously you haven’t been indoctrinated in a cult like ideology, where common logic is replaced by authoritarian rat hole dogma. Where Christian extremist no longer fight poverty on the premise of morality, but fight the poor, and lobby for power to force their extreme brand of religiosity on everyone. We can look at their preoccupation with women’s reproductive Rights as the means they hope to use to enter, and rule every aspect of people’s lives from the cradle to the grave. If they were honest, they would wear their own design of black turbans.

Hmmm—I wonder what would happen in a red state if a pregnant woman insisted on voting twice?

      Reply
      1. TZToronto May 6, 2016

That could be a problem. The pregnant woman would probably have to obtain a proxy from the fetus. That would mean that the fetus would have to sign the proxy, and that would mean removing the fetus from the pregnant woman’s uterus–an abortion? Ooohh! That’s enough to make right wing heads explode. ——————————————–

OK, we have: 1 – a State Legislator who tells women to enjoy the results of rape; 2 – a retired professional young adult abuser with an explosive temper; 3 – a group of religious fanatics (who also don’t believe in going to doctors either) explaining why THEY will be the only ones in heaven; 4 – a governor who cannot understand why legislation designed to restrict people’s freedoms is meeting with resistance from the people it is aimed at, and has probably caused his state a loss of billions in revenues; 5 – a group of people who expressed disbelief that an ignorant misogynist populist defeated their anointed candidate for the Presidency.
AND, the list included Glen Beck! Good job, Sam!

To all believers out there I say grow the hell up and stop acting like children, destiny belongs to us, not your imaginary friend.

What should be studied is how the Evangelical Ministers, and RW propagandists have managed to almost totally eliminate the common human capacity for empathy from among their flock of self absorbed, holier than thou, culture warriors. It seems none of them get it, until whatever it is actually happens to them personally. Take the example of Dick Cheney the converted Right Winger, turned advocate for LGBT Civil Rights upon discovering his own daughter is a Lesbian.

When Sandra Day O’Connor dared to become the first woman Justice on the SC, she opened a door for the three women who followed her. That is the real reason no woman other than Hillary will run. Men can believe they know how women all think, slot all of us into some generic compartment that no woman will accept but the facts still remain that men have a mental pecking order and that pecking order has to go. This is the reason at present Hillary is the ONLY woman brave enough to withstand the type of attacks other women like Elizabeth Warren won’t. This is why Hillary must be president NOW. Not in another 235 years from now.

Women want a woman who thinks as women do. Not as men expect women to think, Time for the old boys network to hang up their pecking order BS.

When Trey Gowdy thought he would find some BS evidence to indict Hillary for Benghazi, she sat their as all women would silently waiting for Mt. Vesuvious to vinish erupting and then like all women, presented him with facts he couldn’t hope to refute. He made an idiot of himself. Chaffetz pulled the same stunt and now the GOP is depserate to save Snyder’s butt by lobbing blame on the EPA for what Snyder was responsible for…lead poisoning to save Flint money. Don’t wonder why the GOP is in the toilet.

Women are much more compassionate. We also tend to “think” things through before jumping to conclusions. We are more analytical, have better insight into the things around us, and have MUCH more common sense! We don’t have to carry big guns to prove ourselves to be “macho.” We already know who and what we are! All in all, a woman would make an excellent president, and I think Hillary could easily stand up to Trump and/or the current Congress without any problems. She’s calm and considerate and knows how to communicate professionally. She listens and then responds…..not jumping to conclusions.

That’s one of the reasons that Watchtower Society(euphemism for cult) was banned in France. The Canadian government also has a bead on them. J Dubs have lost some very large lawsuits in Canada as a result of their child abuses and coverups.

So, if they indict Hillary, doesn’t that mean they have to go back and start investigating Rice and Powell, both of which did exactly the same thing? And even ended up losing millions of emails in the process?? There are still millions and millions of emails that the Bush White House lost when they were using private servers to handle most of their emails.

Why aren’t Bush, Cheney and the whole Bush Administration being investigated?? I’ll guarantee you to tons of the emails lost on their private server were classified.

Here’s just on story of many to support my contention on the lost Bush emails:

      From mediamatters.org:

FLASHBACK: When Millions Of Lost Bush White House Emails (From Private Accounts) Triggered A Media Shrug

Even for a Republican White House that was badly stumbling through George W. Bush’s sixth year in office, the revelation on April 12, 2007 was shocking. Responding to congressional demands for emails in connection with its investigation into the partisan firing of eight U.S. attorneys, the White House announced that as many as five million emails, covering a two-year span, had been lost.

The emails had been run through private accounts controlled by the Republican National Committee and were only supposed to be used for dealing with non-administration political campaign work to avoid violating ethics laws. Yet congressional investigators already had evidence private emails had been used for government business, including to discuss the firing of one of the U.S. attorneys. The RNC accounts were used by 22 White House staffers, including then-Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove, who reportedly used his RNC email for 95 percent of his communications.

The White House email story broke on a Wednesday. Yet on that Sunday’s Meet The Press, Face The Nation, and Fox News Sunday, the topic of millions of missing White House emails did not come up. At all. (The story did get covered on ABC’s This Week.)

The GOP has one hell of a mess on their hands. And the funny is, it’s all 100% of their own doing. First, thru extreme gerrymandering of districts, they put the most ideologically rigid member of their Party in near total control of their primary process. Thinking, by God knows what reason, this mob they created would even consider backing establishment candidates like Jeb Bush, Scott Walker, or John Kasich. When this base truly intends to burn down the Party, and then I guess, figure out what’s next. Then up jumps Trump, a torch in one hand, and a can of gas in the other. And they are surprised?

I pushed his arms down with my hands with the kid wide eyed with fear. He was same age as me. I pinned his arms under my knees. I could have knocked all of his teeth out. I held back knowing what I could do. I had mercy on him. I did that in a school latter on to another kid at a school who picked a fight with me in English class. He pushed my books on the desk that was next to him onto the floor. He was trying to punch me with my back to a wall. He had no power in his punches. I ended up face down with a big heavy person on my back . I torqued my body lifting him up to a balance point. He went crashing down in free fall on his back knocking the wind out of him. I asked him if he would do that again. He shook his head no.
